Frequently asked
Questions
Everything travellers usually ask before their first journey to the valley. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
Planning
Yes. Every journey is private to your group, with your own car and driver. Treks can also run as small shared groups on request.
Always. Our packages are starting points — we can add nights, swap stays, slow the pace or combine two journeys. Tell us what you have in mind and we will send a revised plan.
Four to eight weeks is comfortable for most of the year. For the tulip season, Christmas and New Year, and Gulmarg in January and February, three months ahead is wiser.
We don't include flights, but we're happy to suggest the best connections to Srinagar and adjust your journey around them.
Yes. We plan family journeys with short drives and flexible days, and can arrange ground-floor rooms, pony support and a slower pace for older travellers.
Seasons
It depends on what you want to see: tulips and blossom in April, green meadows from May to August, the red chinars from late October, and snow from December to March. Our journal has a full season-by-season guide.
Gulmarg usually has reliable snow from late December to early March. Sonamarg and the higher passes have snow into May. In summer you can still find snow at Thajiwas and Kongdori.
Stays
Comfortable and memorable. Our houseboats are family-run, with private bathrooms, hot water and heating in winter. You reach them by shikara from the lakeside ghat.
We've stayed in every property we recommend, and we choose them for their hosts as much as their rooms. If you'd prefer a particular hotel, we can include it.
On the road
The tourist areas of the valley — Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and the meadows — welcome hundreds of thousands of travellers every season. We live here, watch conditions every day and will always tell you honestly if we would change a plan.
The roads to Gulmarg and Pahalgam stay open through winter, with snow chains when needed. Gurez and the road beyond Sonamarg close with the snow, usually from December to May.
Postpaid connections from Indian networks work across the valley. Prepaid SIMs from outside Jammu & Kashmir do not. Our drivers and hosts can always be reached, and most stays have Wi-Fi.
Payments
We confirm your journey with an advance and the balance is due before arrival. Bank transfer and UPI are both accepted. Full terms are shared with your quotation.
Our cancellation terms depend on how close to travel you cancel and on the stays involved. They are set out in writing with every quotation, before you pay anything.
